MUST HAVES: 4 OF THE BEST SPRING POLISHES

by Christina Marrale in Products, Beauty

It never fails, anytime I walk into a drugstore, I cannot leave without grabbing a nail polish. It's a total impulse buy for me...some have that with lip gloss, others with mascara, mine are nails. It's the same routine, every single time...just before check out, I make a mad dash to the beauty department, in search of a color that catches my eye.

On my most recent outing, I couldn't help but indulge in a few new Spring collection picks that will be in rotation all through the season:

Essie "Go Ginza" A pretty pastel in the perfect shade of purple (say that line 5x fast...). Everything about this makes me feel feminine and ready for Spring.

NCLA "Downtown Dollface" You'll always catch me on camera rocking white, manicured nails. Believe it or not, the color pops against any skin tone. The look is clean, flawless and very on trend.

OPI "Cant Find My Czechbook" Last Spring was all about mint, but this season is bringing more blues into the equation, and I for one couldn't be happier with this cheery shade of aqua on my nails.

Essie "Butler Please" Blue is the new red, nails that is. This color is sure to make a statement anywhere you go.

MUST HAVES: TURN HEADS WITH JOICO

by Christina Marrale in Beauty, Products

I love the feeling of discovering a great beauty product that not only performs, but becomes a true staple in my beauty regimen. For this week's edition of "Must Have's", I'm excited to have found a line of haircare products that have made me believe in great hair again.

Now, before we get down to business, here's a little back story for you: I'm typically one to let my hair air dry and perform minimal heat styling on it (thank god messy waves are in). With my on-camera work picking up lately, it seems i'm constantly putting it through the ringer. Blowdry, flat iron and curlers have all been in regular use as of late and just when my hair began to rebel, Joico landed in my lap, saving the day.  Here's what i've been using:

Joico Moisture Recovery Shampoo & Conditioner. A combination of bio-mimetic peptides, marine botanicals and seawater nutrients provide exceptional hydration,  prevent dehydration and reduce breakage up to 55%. After almost 6 weeks of use, i've really noticed a difference in the softness, strength and hydration. In addition to the long term results, I love the instant gratification I get from this combination of products. My hair feels ridiculously smooth, without a tangle in sight after conditioning.

If dry hair isn't your issue, check out the other amazing products Joico has to offer, it seems they've got something for everyone! I'm looking forward to trying the K-Pak line next, which combines Joico's exclusive Bio-Advanced Peptideā„¢ and QuadramineĀ® complexes. A powerful combination that repairs and reconstruct hair precisely where it needs it the most. How cool is that?

The shampoo & conditioner aren't the only products i've added to my arsenal recently, stay tuned as i'll be highlighting a few other picks from the line (hint hint, they're total staples for upcoming Summer heat).

BEAUTY BREAKDOWN: THE OSCARS

by Christina Marrale in Beauty, Products

Jennifer Lawrence: This rising star shined bright on Sunday, pairing one of Spring's hottest trends, a messy, undone updo with a classic smokey eye/soft lip. To recreate the look at home, try products like Two Faced Smokey Eyes collection, Bobbi Brown blush in "Peony" and MAC lipstick in "Angel". For the up-do, be sure to skip the hairspray for a tousled, piecy style. Can't go without product? Spray and pull a few baby hairs and pieces free afterwords to create an undone look.

Reese Witherspoon: Channeling "Old Hollywood" glam, Reese looked absolutely gorgeous on the red carpet. Though the waves in hair may seem intimidating to pull off, it's actually quite simple to re-create. First, curl 1 inch thick pieces of hair with a 1-1 & 1/2 inch iron (I love Sultra's Bombshell Curling Rod) and wrap around with the hair going towards your face. After curls are set, simply brush out with a wide toothed comb and apply a smoothing serum like Josie Maran's Argan Hair serum to boost shine.

Naomi Watts: The "undone updo" is making an appearance yet again! This classic beauty accentuated her stunning features with a structured brow, glowing skin and the perfect flush to her cheeks and lips. To re-create the look, for brows, try Anastasia Beverly Hills Bold & Beautiful brow kit. For skin, MAC's Strobe Cream and for lips, YSL's Golden Gloss in "Golden Irreverence".

Who were your favorites from this Sunday's Academy Awards? For more beauty scoop, check out my appearance on "Winging It, Buffalo Style" this morning!

COUNTDOWN TO OSCARS

by Christina Marrale in Beauty, Products

So, what kind of beauty will the red carpet bring this Sunday? I had the pleasure of meeting Celebrity Makeup Artist Jennina Robinette yesterday at Victoria's Secret to talk all things beauty and her red carpet predictions. "Coral is going to be huge this season" she stated as she swiped on one of VS's newest products (and my latest obsession) Color Lust Glossy Lip Stain in "Attraction". The product is lightweight on the lips and quite creamy, unlike many long wearing lip products that tend to dry and crack upon application.

She also stressed the importance of bronzer on the skin, as it gives quite a boost to one's complexion and add a youthful glow. I couldn't keep my hands off of the Baked Mineral Bronzing Powder, Just a few swipes across the forehead, down the bridge of nose and in the cheekbones left me feeling like a red carpet vixen. Another great bronzing product? Instant Bronzing Shimmer Powder, the perfect tool adding shine and a sheer wash of color to the body.

We finished my "Red Carpet Makeover" with a few swipes of the Limited Edition Eyeshadow Trio, which works wonders on many complexions. I was impressed by the high quality of pigment and gorgeous shimmer left on the lid. A quick spritz of Victoria's Secrect's latest floral fragrance, Fabulous Eau De Parfum and I was ready for a night out on the town!

Tomorrow i'll be sharing a bit of wardrobe scoop from Estee Stanley, an esteemed celebrity stylist who certainly knows a thing or two about great gowns and what to wear underneath! Stay tuned.

NOW TRENDING: A BEAUTY RECAP

by Christina Marrale in Beauty

This season's NYFW had many new trends emerging from the runways, bold lips, slicked hair, barely there makeup and much, much more. The 4 looks i've listed above are my personal favorites from the fashionable week, what were yours?

90'S GRUNGE HAIR: Whether you loved, or hated it in the 90's, this 'messy chic' hairstyle is making it's return this Fall with a new, modern twist. Not into full on bed head hair? Try a more sophisticated style as seen on the models at Vera Wang.

STRUCTURED BROWS: One trend I truly love (and will never tire of) is a good, full brow. It adds so much to the face and gives a youthful look to anyone. If your not into a sculpted look, try a more subtle brow, as seen on the models at Proenza Schouler.

ENDLESS BRAIDS: Twisted tresses have been the rage for several seasons and after this years NYFW, the trend doesn't show any signs of stopping. If your not so skilled in the braid department, hit up your local salon, as many have begun offering braid services and "braid bars" on the menu.

SMOLDERING EYES: Going along with the "grunge" trend this year, smoldering and smudged eyeliner/shadow was one of the most popular looks on the runway. A refreshing take on the ever so popular smokey eye, the focus has now shifted into placing product on the lower lash line, keeping the lids neutral with loads of lashes.
