One of my favorite parts about spending time back east? Witnessing a true change of seasons. This time of year evenings turn cooler, leaves begin to change, fashion week coverage kicks off, and my appetite for fall beauty advances. So much so, that I began exploring a few DIY beauty recipes this past weekend, all with ingredients that really hit the spot lately — cinnamon, pumpkin, and of course, apple cider.
The outcome not only smelled delicious (especially the cinnamon scrub, yum!), the recipes were rather effective, too. If you're ready to get into that autumn spirit, I highly suggest an afternoon spent pampering with these treatments, they take a few minutes to whip up, are rather cost effective and do wonders for the skin/body. Enjoy!
Cinnamon Sugar Scrub:
- 1/2 cup White Sugar
- 1/2 cup Raw Cane Sugar
- 1/4 cup Coconut Oil
- 1/2 tsp. Vanilla Extract (optional, but boy do I suggest it, makes it smell heavenly!)
- 2 tsp. Cinnamon
Cinnamon can actually improve your skin in a multitude of ways — everything from softening fine lines, boosting circulation, relieving eczema and boosting collagen production, it really does it all!
Apple Cider Toner:
- 1 part Apple Cider Vinegar (I prefer Braggs)
- 2 parts distilled water
The effects of the vinegar are incredible, as it will pH balance your skin. That will help regulate oil production, clear acne, allow for better absorption of products and keep skin glowing. I've found this particular mixture (above) to be the most universal and work amongst all skin-types. Tweak and play around with the portions if you must, there's no rules, it's really whatever works best for you.
Pumpkin Face Mask:
- 2 Tbsp Canned pumpkin puree
- 1/2 tsp Honey (preferably raw, for maximum benefit)
- 1/2 tsp Plain yogurt
Pumpkin is packed with powerful ingredients that provide major benefits to the skin, including AHA's (alpha-hydroxy acids) and enzymes which promote cell turnover and a smoother complexion, as well as vitamin A, C & E which brighten, boost collagen and maintain oil production.
