I'll be honest with you, when it comes to holidays and gift giving, I tend to drop the ball in the creative department — especially around Valentine's day. Though it's definitely more of a female-driven holiday, I always like to do something nice for my husband regardless. This year, we planned for a quiet night at home and after careful consideration, I decided that it might be nice to create a mini-spa right in the comfort of our own space. It's a relaxing and romantic way to do something together that uses up some ingredients we already have in our home and also a way to do something hands-on. Here's what I have planned:
Bedroom Spa Oasis
Cranberry Pomegranate Lip Scrub: The sugar will exfoliate your lips, while the honey hydrates and locks in moisture. Also, the cranberries and pomegranate seeds provide a natural red tint (a bonus for those that don't want to worry about reapplying a lipcolor through your day). And though this one isn't for the men, it's edible, so feel free to have them remove it for you if you know what I mean!
Slather on a Mask: First Aid Beauty offers a variety of masks that deliver immediate results that mimic professional treatments. I like their Skin Rescue Purifying Mask with red clay, it takes 20 minutes and peels off or you can use their Ultra Repair Instant Oatmeal Mask which takes only 10 minutes.
Spa-Caliber Couples Massage at Home
A romantic way to show some love is with a couples massage. Create a peaceful environment with soft, silky fabrics, a nice clean towel, fluffy pillows, candles, and scented oils for the massage. For those feeling ambitious, try making your own lavender oil. Inhaling the wonderful aroma will induce relaxation. Lavender is also great for releasing muscle tension.
If you're not into making your own, you can also pick up an oil at Whole Foods (or any natural food store) from Weleda, a favorite brand of mine that offers 100% certified natural products. They’ve been around for over 100 years old and this Arnica massage oil is used in professional spas around the world. It smells like rosemary and lavender. You can also try their body oil starter kit that offers a huge range of oils to indulge the body and mind.
